What the Lord Jesus Means to Christians
3rd Sunday of Easter

How do we remember a beloved person, father or mother, who passed away?  We console one another with our common faith that he/she is happy with God.  As time heals the wound caused by death, the memory of this person lives on in our minds.  We remember sayings:  "Father used to say .... "  Anecdotes that reflect him/her as a lovable person are told time and again:  "Mother used to ....." followed by a little recollection that shows how concerned she could be.  Something like this took place after the death of Jesus.

First, there was utter dismay and sadness.  But then the disciples experienced the Master as alive.  They told others about it.  And long after the Lord's last apparition, they shared experiences with others, telling what he had meant to them.  These narratives, related time and again in the congregation, reflect the personality of Jesus Christ, his forgiveness, his power, his care, his mercy.  Only the most characteristic ones were used by the writers of the New Testament to teach us who the Lord Jesus is and what he means to Christians.

We have some examples in today's Scripture readings.  May these traditions help to make us more aware of the significance of the risen Lord in our lives.

SJV Marriage Community
Invitation

SJV Marriage Community invites you to join us on Friday, April 27 at 7:00 PM for our discussion "From Wedding Band to Marriage Ring" where we'll talk about the circle of allies for our marriages.

  • Where is the community of well-wishers that attended our wedding?
  • Can we, as a couple, turn to them in happy AND difficult times?
  • Who counsels us, coaches us, and encourages us to keep love alive?

Bring your wedding albums and/or video clips of your wedding.  Bring an appetizer or wine to share.  PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS MONTH'S MEETING IS ON A FRIDAY.

Onsite childcare will be provided.  Let us know how many children will be needing childcare.

For more information, contact Richard and Veronica Wildanger at (408) 937-1483 or email rpwildanger@earthlink.net
